ABOUT SYLVIA

Hi, my name is Sylvia.  I am an Acupuncture and Sports Massage Therapist and registered member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists. I am currently based in Dawlish and Exeter area.  My area of expertise is in acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neuromuscular aches and pains; sports injuries; using Acupuncture treatments in the rehabilitation of limb activity after stroke and also women's health care such as menstrual and menopausal disorder.  I combine both medical knowledge, TCM theories, Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Tuina and sport massage techniques to provide individual and suitable treatments to each patient and to ensure they will receive a high standard of service.

I graduated from one of the oldest and top-ranked TCM universities in China, Guangzhou University Of Chinese Medicine, following the completion of a five-year Bachelor of Medicine degree in Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Chinese Tuina Massage. The degree included training in Western medical sciences, such as anatomy, physiology and pathology, And also a one-year hospital placement involved being rotated to different departments of both inpatients and outpatients, including Physiotherapy, Neurology, Respiratory, Cardiology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics and Pharmacy. In each department, I assisted medical professionals and doctors to provide Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture treatments. The treatments I specialised in during this placement were adjunctive treatments for paediatric physical disabilities, menstrual disorders and infertility, rehabilitation treatments after stroke and neurological damage, and Orthopaedics injuries.

Upon graduation, I shadowed an acupuncture practitioner to further my experience in using Acupuncture and Moxibustion for post-stroke rehabilitation. The experience of working in a hospital environment developed my patient facing skills, ability to communicate effectively and sensitively and clinical knowledge.

Since 2018, I have completed several UK based ITEC diplomas in sports massage and now I am taking my Level 5 Sports Therapy Course. I am continuously updating my knowledge by attending Continual Professional Development courses and reading Sports Injuries related professional books and articles as I hope to keep updating the latest treatment methods and knowledge to improve my service.
